SLIMMER’S CHOCMALLOW DOUGHNUTS

These bad-boys have been by far the most popular post so far on my Facebook page, from hundreds of recipes! The beauty is that they are very low syn, but really do taste good enough that you feel like you are eating something really naughty! They are only 3 syns each (if you are using the wholemeal bread from your healthy extra b allowance). If you have a sweet tooth give them a go! Although these look naughty, they really aren’t anywhere near as bad as a real doughnut, and are a great way to beat sugary snack cravings if you are following any weight loss programs.

Ingredients

  • 2 slices wholemeal bread from a 400g loaf
  • 1 tbsp chocolate spread
  • 20 mini marshmallows
  • 1 egg beaten
  • Low calorie cooking spray
  • 1 tbsp sweetener
  • 1 tsp cinnamon

Instructions

  • Cut the crusts away from the slices of bread, and roll flat with a rolling pin
  • Spread each slice with 1/2 tbsp chocolate spread
  • Dot 10 mini marshmallows over each slice of bread
  • Roll the bread up into a sausage shape
  • Dip each rolled up slice into the egg to thoroughly coat
  • Fry until browned all over in low-calorie cooking spray, being careful not to burn the outside (about 7 minutes)
  • Sprinkle the sweetener and cinnamon over a plate
  • Roll the cooked doughnuts in the sweetener/cinnamon mixture until thoroughly coated
  • Eat while warm and gooey

Notes

I have given the amounts to cover 2 slices of bread (your whole HEB allowance) so 1/2 the ingredients if you are just going to use 1. One tablespoon of average chocolate spread is 4 syns (Waitrose do a beautiful chocolate spread called ‘Seriously chocolatey chocolate spread’ which is a little lower syn at 3 syns per tablespoon- totally recommend this if you can get hold of it, as not only does it save on syns, it is also completely delicious! 10 mini marshmallows are 1 syn. If you aren’t a fan of cinnamon then skip that but, and if you don’t mind adding a couple of extra syns, use real sugar for rolling the doughnuts in. Enjoy!
