Syn free gravy

If you want to stay as low syn as possible with a roast, or sausages and mash, this is the one for you!

My husband’s working away at the moment, so I wanted to make myself a lovely hearty plate of sausages, mash, onions and gravy (which he hates!). I’m using a couple of syns on the sausages, so thought I would have a go at making a tasty syn-free gravy (I can’t just have watery Oxo- need a nice thick gravy with this!). It’s really easy to do- just throw everything in, simmer and whizz, and I think it tasted fantastic- had to stop myself from eating it like soup!

My Recipe

Serves: 2-4
Syns: none
Healthy Extra:

Ingredients

  • 1 onion, peeled and quartered
  • 300ml boiling water
  • 1 beef oxo cube
  • 1 red wine stock pot (from Tesco's- substitute for a tbsp red wine vinegar if you can't get one)
  • 1/4 tsp dried thyme
  • 1/2 tsp dried rosemary
  • 1/2 carrot, peeled and roughly chopped
  • pepper

Method

  1. Chuck everything in a pan, bring to the boil, and then simmer on low for 30 minutes.
  2. Use a hand blender or food processor to whizz up!
