Description

Learn how to make homemade frozen chips for the oven or air fryer! This easy step-by-step guide will help you create crispy, delicious chips at home—perfect for quick meals and snacks.

Low syn- calculate syns (for Slimming World) based on how many sprays of oil or low calorie cooking spray you are using.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1kg potatoes (a floury variety like Maris Piper), peeled
  • Spray oil (I use olive oil or cold pressed rapeseed) or low calorie cooking spray- see notes above

Instructions

1.    Prepare the potatoes

o   Peel (if desired) and cut into evenly sized chips or fries, about 1cm thick for even cooking.

2.    Parboil the chips

o   Place the cut chips into a large pan of cold water.

o   Bring to a boil, then simmer for 5 minutes.

o   Drain and allow to cool completely, either in a colander or spread out on a flat surface.

3.    Coat lightly with oil

o   Lightly spray the cooled chips with oil, tossing to coat evenly.

o   You can use a low-calorie cooking spray for oven cooking, but avoid it for air frying.

4.    Freeze the chips

o   Divide into portion-sized freezer bags.

o   Lay the bag flat, spread the chips into a single layer, remove excess air, and seal.

o   Freeze flat for easy storage and to prevent sticking.
