I am so thrilled to have been announced as the winner of the Food category at the Britmums Brilliance in Blogging awards 2018!
I have been blogging since 2015, and in 2017, when both of my daughters had started school, it became my job. It’s such a new industry and the landscape is constantly changing- the thing that I have tried to keep consistent is sharing the content that I am most passionate about (yes, food!), staying true to myself, and keeping my voice authentic in what I am writing.
I’m not a chef, I’m a home cook- I love cooking, I love making up recipes, I hate following complex recipes and I am always looking for a way to simplify the process without negotiating on the flavour. I do my best to make my meals as healthy as possible but I don’t think there’s any point if it’s going to taste bad because of a compromise! It’s always a bonus if the kids like a meal too, and my slow-cooker is one of my best friends! I cook on an old Aga that is falling apart, and can only reach a top temperature of 180c, in fact my whole kitchen is falling apart and desperately needs a makeover! I’m not picture perfect and neither is my kitchen, but I am real, and I know the challenges that can get in the way of home-cooking and healthy eating.
I hope that my recipes resonate with my audience because they are like me- busy with kids, or jobs, wanting to eat well but with little time for faffing around, and if minimal effort can create a great meal then why not give it a go?! One of the things that is lovely about this award is knowing that all the people who voted for me took the time out of their day to go through the process, and to me this means that my blog helps them in some way, and that gives me a nice warm feeling inside!
So, a very big thank-you to everybody who reads the blog, cooks the recipes, comes back for more and likes, comments and interacts with my social media accounts. And a very big thank-you to everyone who voted for me- it’s a perfect end to my first year of full-time food blogging!
Just a little shout out to all of the Devon bloggers, who are a lovely, supportive community. Out of 11 categories at the BiB awards this year, 4 Devon bloggers brought home the awards which is just fantastic!
