1/2 syn brownies

Very low syn chocolate brownies, lovely with fresh raspberries and some sweetened Quark or light aerosol cream

If you are looking for a little cakey treat these are great for satisfying a craving. They aren’t really proper chocolate brownies, because those taste delicious fo a reason! But the whisked egg whites make these a viable Slimming World alternative if you are feeling the need to bake, and they do taste good!

My Recipe

Serves: 16
Syns: 1/2
Healthy Extra:

  • 6 eggs (separated)
  • 70g sweetener
  • 60g cocoa powder (not hot chocolate)
  • 1tsp vanilla extract
  • Frylight

  1. Preheat the oven at 180ºc, spray a baking tin with Fry Light (I used my round cake tins with the pop out bottoms, and covered the bottom with greaseproof paper/frylight)
  2. Whisk the egg whites until they form soft peaks.
  3. In a separate bowl add the egg yolks, sweetener, vanilla essence & cocoa
  4. Whisk until mixed but you can add a bit of water if the mixture is too stiff
  5. Then fold in the egg whites
  6. Pour the mixture into the tins
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes.
  8. Remove from tins and divide into 16 pieces

Additional Info

Anchor Light aerosol spray cream is 1 syn for a 12.5g serving, and goes very well with this and some raspberries!

Are there any alternatives to sweetener that could be used and how many syns would need to be added? I can’t stand the taste of sweetener.

Are they 1/2 syns each slice or for all 16 slices?

      1/2 a syn per slice I’m afraid 🙂

Have you ever tried using xylitol as your sweetener? I’m not keen on sweeteners myself but I was shocked when I tasted this one, I honestly can not tell the difference between the xylitol and normal sugar. I used to get it from Holland and Barrett’s but it was really expensive! Luckily Tesco have started selling it now, it should be down the healthy aisle with the ‘free from’ products on, I got some the other day and it’s £1.99 per 225g at the moment, I’d honestly give it a try if I was you 🙂
