Harissa & herb Moroccan meatballs

Years ago, when I was working in London I would sometimes pick up my lunch in Leon, and one of my absolute favourites was the Moroccan meatballs. They would serve these with brown rice with toasted seeds, and an amazing homemade coleslaw (and I HATE normal coleslaw, but this was lovely and crunchy and not covered in sloppy mayonnaise!). Unfortunately we don't have Leon restaurants down in Devon, but I do have 2 of their cookbooks, which I have used SO much! This one is the absolute classic ...

One-pan lemony chicken rice

I love anything that can be cooked using just one dish- it makes life so much easier, so I'm often experimenting with one pan wonders. This one was inspired by the fact that my girls seem to love anything which is lemony (such as this lemon and thyme chicken penne and this Lemony chicken and cannellini bean stew).  It was such a hit with the girls, and when my husband smelt it he said he hoped we were having it too! The amounts that I've put here fed us as a family of 4- my ...

Why my family is switching to organic, free-range milk

I've always loved drinking milk. For years I used to have a glass before bed (and still do sometimes!), and my love of milk has definitely passed onto my girls, at 4 and 7, they still drink a lot of milk, and it's always been a part of our bedtime routine. I have continued to buy them whole milk beyond their toddler years as they love the creaminess of it, and it is more nutritious, because the cream contains the fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K. I have been having pangs of conscience ...

Thai carrot and red cabbage salad

We recently had a lovely weekend away where our hosts cooked the most amazing meals- they were catering for 11 adults and 4 children and they went to so much time and effort to feed us all. All of the food was delicious and I've asked for all the recipes, but one of the absolute stars was a grated vegetable salad which had Thai flavours. It's really something that I would never have thought of doing and it's really inspired me! I don't yet have that specific recipe, but we were heading ...

Goodlife ready meals: Review

Goodlife recently asked me if I would like to try out their ready meals. I think if this had been my first encounter I might have said no- I never really buy ready meals, and I wouldn't naturally seek out a vegetarian products. But actually a little while ago I reviewed some of the other products in the Goodlife frozen range and I was so impressed by how tasty it was that I thought I would give these a go! Goodlife have been working with British farmers for 25 years to create family-frie...

Treats in store at Iceland this Christmas!

I love Christmas, the magic of it has truly returned for me since having children, and although I wouldn't normally allow it to creep in until November, I was thrilled to get the chance to go to London last week and see what Iceland are going to have on offer for us this Christmas. I absolutely love discovering new products and I'm always excited to see the new innovations that are around in food and drink every Christmas. Now I have to admit that I have never (so far!) headed to ...

5 quick & healthy Monday dinners

I am not the most organised person when it comes to food- I wish I was one of those people who plans out every single meal and then does 1 big weekly shop which covers everything, but my approach is always much for haphazard! I therefore usually arrive at a Monday, without anything planned, thinking 'what can I cook tonight?'! Here are some of my favourite quick and easy-to-make dinners! 1. Lemon and thyme chicken penne: Not only is this very easy to make, it's something that my whole ...

Easy roasted ratatouille

I really like the type of cooking that you can just get prepped and then leave cooking without having to worry about it! when we moved into our house 5 years ago, it came with an Aga- I was soooo excited about it- it's so cosy in the kitchen and I thought I'd love cooking on it. I do love the fact that it's on all the time and you don't have to thik about pre-heating the oven, and I love the fact that it's so cosy on winter mornings and I can heat the girls clothes up, but actually I really ...
